Birthday Boxes for At-Risk Kids

This quarter our Missions & Outreach focus is on helping at-risk kids.  For the month of May, we will partner with a local organization called Project Giving Light (PGL).

PGL’s whole ministry is around bringing joy and light to children through their birthday boxes and birthday celebrations! They throw birthday parties for kids. At-risk kids live in a constant state of trauma, but this organization interrupts this overwhelming haze with an infusion of joy and light! They want every child to know that they were made for a purpose, to speak hope, joy, and blessings over them, and to bring light and joy into whatever space they call “home” so that they begin to dream about more than just surviving. Most importantly, we want every child to know that God loves them, He sees them, they matter to Him, and they are not alone.

How can you help?

We want ALL of SHEPHERD’SGROVE to participate!! Our goal as a church is to make 200 Birthday Boxes, all of which will go to local kids in the Orange County Foster Care program. You can choose to include $5 in your box to help pay for the party supplies of the location your box is going to. Checks can be made out to Project Giving Light.

How does it work?

You can stop by the outreach table in the Courtyard any Sunday in May to pick up a birthday box and shopping instructions. Once you pick a child and age group, go shopping for them and fill your box to return to the church. Return the boxes to the outreach table or church office no later than Sunday, June 6th!

Questions?

Please stop by the Outreach table or contact Curtis Drever outreach@shepherdsgrove.org. You can also check out this guide for steps to complete your box, what to include, and a birthday card template! But please note that you DO NOT NEED to wrap the box, instead simply bring the box back with a rubber band to secure it.

Let’s bless these kids together!
